I have been in business for over 15 years. The way I have done business has changed with this website being one of those changes. I felt it was time to reach out to a larger audience with my work. The new workshop is being constructed in my backyard, as we speak, as is this site. Stayed tuned as we progress and grow.

My products are all handmade and designed by me to be original. I started with a "Classic Chess Set" as a gift for my boyfriend in 2005 and have progressed.

I made the "Down on the Farm" chess set while business was slow out at the area market during the cold winter months. The attention from customers while working in clay at the market lent itself to more creating in clay and also demonstrating the how to's each Saturday.

The "Cottage Life" chess set was a custom order. The couple that wanted it asked for specific pieces to be certain characters, and from their ideas, I developed the set. Their daughter owned or rode an Appoloosa horse so I specifically made the knight to represent that breed. They also have many frogs and loons near the cottage where they house the Chess set. It made sense to have those animals as the pawns. This set is one of my favourites. Yours although similar would never be a duplicate of this or any other set I create.

The work in progress set  "Under the Sea" came from a memory of how my own daughter loved the movie "The Little Mermaid". The pieces look nothing like those characters of course but they are my interpretation of who or what can be found "Under the Sea"

Good work takes time. It may take up to 6 weeks for your set to arrive but it will be worth the wait. Look through the pictures on the site to see some of the steps required in making your set . I start with wet clay and mould it into a shape that will dry (also known as greenware). It is loaded into the kiln and bisqued . The pieces  then have to be glazed(aka painted), allowed to dry and coated in a protective transparent glaze. The pieces once again enter the kiln and are fired when they come out they have a great glossy finish and bright colours appear.

Did I mention while all that is going on I cut the wood for the board, route the edges and then hand paint the squares on. I then put 4 or 5 coats of clear coat ( glossy or Matte) on the top of the board the bottom gets 3 coats. As a finishing touch I will put protectors on the underside of the board to protect your furnitue from scratches.
